Walt Disney World in Florida is a photographer's paradise, offering countless opportunities to capture magical moments. While some locations are well-known to all, there are also hidden gems that deserve the spotlight. Let's explore both the famous and underrated photo spots in each of the four parks.
Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom offers a treasure trove of Instagram-worthy shots, with the iconic Cinderella Castle reigning supreme. Capture its majesty at sunset for a serene picture. Looking for an unconventional spot away from the crowds? Head to the right side of the castle, where you find a Wishing Well and take the most beautiful photos ever!
For whimsical shots, pose with colorful wall murals — a famous one is the Purple Wall in Tomorrowland, near the restaurant Tomorrowland Terrace. For a touch of adventure, snap shots on an often overlooked attraction: The Swiss Family Treehouse in Adventureland is a really fun walk through nature and tree branches that offers great opportunities for incredible pictures, and it’s right next to Jungle Cruise.
Talking about Jungle Cruise, make a dining reservation at Skipper Canteen and explore the different rooms in the restaurant, but especially the secret hallways that lead to the restrooms. You gotta trust me on this one!
Pro Tip: Memory Maker is the ultimate Disney photo package. I always get it for my trips and highly recommend it to all my clients. My favorite thing about the Memory Maker is asking Cast Members for Magic Shots, especially in front of the castle at night.
EPCOT
Spaceship Earth is EPCOT’s unmistakable symbol. For the best evening photo in front of the “Giant Ball”, position yourself in front of one of the light posts that surround the garden. This will give you great lighting, while also focusing on the colorful icon in the background.
The World Showcase is a goldmine for diverse and culturally rich shots. An underrated location — and my favorite country in the park — is the Morocco pavilion in World Showcase. Its narrow streets and intricate architecture offer an authentic and exotic backdrop, ideal for photos with a touch of mystery.
Be creative and find hidden corners in each country. The bridge going into the Palace in Japan is a hidden gem; the China pavilion at night is one of the most beautiful backdrops for your photos. And walk up to the mountains and waterfall in the Canada pavilion for a picture with less crowds and more beauty!
Hollywood Studios
You can’t think about Hollywood Studios without thinking about Tower of Terror. We could say that this attraction is the park’s ultimate icon, and a classic for photos, especially at night when illuminated. For a different approach, capture yourself by the arches in the beginning of the queue, creating a natural frame.
Another great location for insta-worthy shots is in Toy Story Land, when you’re exiting the attraction Toy Story Mania. You’ll see a wall full of giant and colorful blocks, which make for such a fun and cute photo prop.
I can’t move on to the next park without talking about Galaxy’s Edge. It is absolutely everyone’s favorite photo spot, but it’s always so crowded. A good idea is using the wall/tunnel that leads into the land as a backdrop for your photos. Moreover, if you are a Disney Resort guest, take advantage of Early Entry to get to the Millennium Falcon before the crowds to take the best pictures rocking your Lightsaber.
Pro Tip: Make a reservation for Oga’s Cantina after park closing hours — 9:50 PM, for example — after you enjoy some drinks, you’ll have a crowd-free Galaxy’s Edge to take the best night pictures, as you exit the park.
Animal Kingdom
The majestic Tree of Life is the iconic symbol and heart of the park, standing tall on Discovery Island. But getting a picture in front of the tree, towards the entrance of the park, is not the best idea because it’s always so crowded. Instead, go to my favorite spot for a less conventional photo: head to the path between Pandora and Africa, where you can capture intricate details of the sculpted animals in close-up.
A surprisingly photogenic location is the Maharajah Jungle Trek. The Asian-inspired architecture and lush vegetation makes you feel like you’re trekking through an ancient temple and provide great opportunities for unique photos less common on social media.
Tips for the best pictures across all parks
1. Look for architectural details: Disney is known for its attention to detail. Explore less obvious corners to find fascinating decorative elements. In Animal Kingdom, head to the Royal Anandapur Tea Company in Asia for a hidden spot with the most beautiful view of the Discovery River.
2. Take advantage of queues: Some attraction queues, like Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom, offer incredible views and settings that many ignore.
3. Book Disney’s Enchanting Extras: Tours like “Keys to the Kingdom” in Magic Kingdom and “Behind the Seeds” at EPCOT take you to areas normally closed to the public, perfect for exclusive photos (when allowed, of course).
4. Capture the nighttime magic: Many visitors leave early, missing the beauty of the parks at night. Stay later for photos with special lighting and fewer people. Extended Evening Hours at EPCOT are my favorite!
5. Use the waters: Lakes, fountains, and rivers in all parks offer interesting reflections and unique perspectives of the park icons.
Remember, the true magic of Walt Disney World lies in the lived experience. While seeking the perfect Instagram photo, don't forget to enjoy every moment. Balance capturing images with immersing yourself in the attractions, shows, and unique atmosphere of each park. With creativity and an attentive eye, you'll discover that even the most discreet corners of Walt Disney World can transform into spectacular backdrops for your photographic memories.
